Airports

Dresden (DRS) – 12 km (~20 minutes)
Leipzig/Halle (LEJ) – 124 km (~1 hour 30 minutes)
Prague (PRG) – 145 km (~2 hours)
Berlin (BER) – 170 km (~1 hour 45 minutes)

When we looked into Dresden as a destination, there were direct trains from Berlin Airport to Dresden several times a day. Unfortunately, that connection was discontinued end of May 2025.

Here are some alternative options for getting to Dresden:

The example for Flixbus is a direct connection, starting from USD 30 for a return ticket from Berlin Airport. You get a carry-on bag and a “checked bag” included in the price. You can make a seat reservation for yourself, and also pay an additional USD 10 to book the seat next to you (making sure it remains empty). So for USD 55, you could choose this option, and have space for your cat next to you. The travel time is ~2 hours, and the buses run several times a day.

Getting a rental car at the Berlin airport is possible starting from around EUR 50 per day for that weekend. This includes most insurance options. But then you’d also have to pay for parking in Dresden (the garage is not part of the hotel, and parking is about EUR 28 per day. If you stay in Dresden longer, you could look into renting the car for just the way there, and then just the way back. Of course, you could carpool with someone else, and then it becomes a bit more affordable.

You can get a direct train from Frankfurt Airport to Dresden. The train ride is 4:30 hours, and the trains run about every 2 hours. But considering air travel timelines, this would probably be faster and more convenient than making a connection to Berlin (or Prague), and then getting on something else to get to your destination. Frankfurt is a major hub for a lot of airlines, so chances are you might have more (and cheaper) options flying there.

Regarding flights: considering that for Star Alliance flights the pet in cabin fee is typically a bit lower, one could consider choosing a “different” airline for this trip. Most Star Alliance flights will go through Frankfurt airport as a hub, and then you have a direct connection to Dresden several times per day. To get to Berlin on Sky Team, you would typically also have another stop somewhere in Europe, and then need to make your way from Berlin to Dresden. Just food for thought…

Travel With Cats

We will have litter available at the show hall for exhibitors traveling by plane or public transportation. There will be vendors who also offer cat food – but we cannot promise that “your” brand will be available.

The state capital of Dresden extends across 328 square kilometers and has approximately 541,000 residents. Dresden is perfectly linked with the international transit network, and can be reached from every direction by rail, car or air. In terms of geographical size, Dresden is Germany’s fourth-largest city after Berlin, Hamburg and Cologne. The city stretches out on both sides of the Elbe River and is embedded in the foothills of the East Erzgebirge Mountains, the Elbe Sandstone Mountains and the Lausitz granite plate, 113 meters above sea level. The 383-meter Triebenberg Mountain is Dresden’s highest point, and is located in the Schoenfeld highlands. Its lowest point is in the district of Cossebaude, 101 meters above sea level. The Elbe River snakes its way through the city with a length of 30 kilometers. Nine bridges provide crossing points throughout the city. With 62 percent of its area covered by forest and green space, Dresden is one of the greenest cities in Europe. Within the city limits there are 3 nature sanctuaries, 11 landscape conservation areas and 112 natural monuments. Numerous public parks and recreational areas complete Dresden’s green spaces. Dresden is considered a city of art and culture, but it is also an important technology hub. A network of research, science and culture has been established in the city, with a total of nine colleges and universities. The Technische Universitaet, with 33,506 students, is one of the largest universities in Germany.

There will be an early check-in party with catered refreshments on Friday at the show hall from 16:00 (4:00 PM) – 21:00 (9:00 PM). This will include the opportunity to also have your cats checked in for the show, so you do not have to wait in line on Saturday morning!

We hope as many exhibitors as possible will take advantage of the chance to check in, collect their documents and goodie bags, have their cats checked by a vet, set up their cages, and enjoy the party. That way we will all have a smoother time on Saturday morning.

Check-In times for Saturday are planned for 7:00 AM – 8:30 AM. If we do not have enough exhibitors checking in on Friday, we may need to start check-in earlier on Saturday. Check-in will definitely need to end at 8:30 AM on Saturday!
